Drivers

Sam Lowes
Born on 14 September 1990 in Lincoln, England

World Supersport champion in 2013, Sam Lowes moved up to Moto2 the following season with the Speed Up team. After a season of learning, he won his first Grand Prix in 2015, in Texas. He then signed for the Gresini team. A title contender, he made too many mistakes in the race and had to settle for 5th place overall. In 2017, he moved up to MotoGP with Aprilia, but without much success.

Back in Moto2, he unfortunately struggled to find his feet with the Swiss Innovative Investors team. After another spell with Gresini in 2019, he secured a place with Marc VDS in 2020. With seven podiums, three wins and three pole positions, the Briton rebuilt himself to become one of the favourites for the Moto2 championship. In 2021, the Marc VDS rider finished fourth in the overall standings, adding three wins to his tally.

In 2022, as he set out again with the aim of challenging for the world title, Sam was injured and finished the year in nineteenth place overall.

Although he added a victory to his list of achievements in 2023, the Elf Marc VDS Racing rider decided to leave Grand Prix racing and enter Superbike with the same team. Unfortunately, his WSBK debut proved more difficult than expected.

Between his lack of experience, and that of his team, in the category, as well as a number of crashes and other injuries, he did not achieve the results he had hoped for. He obviously needs to do better this season.
