Kiss wows the crowds as Calvet scoops the Promoter’s Cup

Jarama, Spain, October 3rd - Having already sealed his fourth European championship title in Le Mans last time out, Hungarian Norbert Kiss had no intention of merely turning up to wave at the crowds here in Spain.

He produced another first-class performance in qualifying to rack up his fourteenth and fifteenth pole positions of the season. And had he not been disqualified at the Nürburgring due to a technical problem, he would have claimed all sixteen. He converted both poles into victories to take his total for the season to sixteen race wins. Races two and four were won by André Kursim and Téo Calvet, who ended his 2022 campaign in style.

He had started the weekend with sixth place outright in race 1, finishing first in the Promoter’s Cup standings, taking him one step closer to claiming the title. He did the same thing with his result in race 2 (overall runner-up and first in the Promoter’s Cup). It was therefore following the third contest of the weekend that he secured the Promoter’s Cup title after he finished second in class in race three. His outright victory in race four was just the icing on the cake. Lastly, it is worth noting that Jonathan André, the Lion Truck Racing driver who is still cutting his teeth in elite-level truck racing, improved over the course of the meeting to sign off his season with an encouraging tenth place in the final race of the year.

Championship update

Although French driver Téo Calvet came into the final round with a healthy fifteen-point lead in the Promoter’s Cup, he was by no means assured of winning the title, with some sixty points still up for grabs. However, he managed to seal the title in style, pocketing his second outright victory of the season, after also winning a race in Le Mans. Having already wrapped up the ETRC title for a fourth time in Le Mans, Norbert Kiss continued to rack up the records in Spain, ending the season with fifteen pole positions and sixteen race wins.
