Most, Czech Republic, September 6th - The FIA European Truck Racing Championship returned to action this weekend after the summer break at Most in the Czech Republic.
Hungarian defending champion Norbert Kiss (Revesz Racing) picked up pretty much where he had left off before the holidays with a dominant performance. He grabbed pole position in the opening qualifying session, beating the track lap record in process, which had stood since 2009. He then produced a lights-to-flag winning performance in race one, finishing ahead of Jochen Hahn and Sascha Lenz. The second qualifying session was a carbon copy of the first, as the Hungarian once again topped the time sheets, narrowly beating Sascha Lenz before winning again in race 3. Only races 2 and 4 escaped his clutches: Jamie Anderson secured his third and fourth wins of the season, despite both races not looking like they were going to go his way.
In race 2, Jamie Anderson had to scramble past Lukas Hahn on the final corner, whilst he almost didn't make it to the start of the weekend’s final race after suffering a turbocharger issue. However, when Norbert Kiss was unable to win, he managed to finish in the points (fourth and then seventh) and maintain his push for the title. The French team Lion Truck Racing returned to the track this weekend, following the tragic death of its driver, Anthony Janiec. Driving duties were taken up by Jonathan André, a member of the team since its inception who has worked as race engineer and team manager. He gradually got to grips with the truck and managed to obtain some decent results, most notably eleventh place in race 1. There will be precious little respite for the competitors as the championship returns to action next weekend (10-11 September) at Zolder in Belgium for round six (of a total of eight this season).
After arriving in the Czech Republic forty-eight points ahead of his nearest rival in the FIA ETRC, Norbert Kiss leaves Most with a sixty-point lead, with two additional race wins under his belt, and looks very much on course to claim another drivers’ title.
