Lowes back on the podium in Moto2

Sachsenring, Germany, June 20th 2022 - Out of luck the last few races, Sam Lowes made up for it at the Sachsenring circuit with a third place. The British rider had not been on the podium since the opening race of the championship in Qatar.

For the second race in a row, Raul Fernandez and Remy Gardner finished in the points. In Germany it was the Spaniard who was the best performing Tech 3 rider, crossing the line in twelfth place. “This is the first time I've had so much fun in a race," commented Raul. “I rode at the same pace as Binder and Oliveira, which is encouraging. It was very hot, but physically I held up well. That's another positive point.” Remy Gardner finished fifteenth. “I am disappointed", admitted the Australian at the finish. “I messed up my start and I was last into the first turn. From then on, I tried to come back but I lacked pace. I also suffered physically. We'll have to analyse all this so we don't repeat the same mistakes."

After a long series of disappointing results, Sam Lowes was back on the podium at the German round of the Moto2 World Championship. The British rider, who was competing in his 150th Grand Prix, had already shown he was on form in practice by taking pole position. “This result is important because it will allow us to get back on track," said the Elf Marc VDS rider. “We really needed something solid after all our setbacks. I lost contact with the front of the race when I hit a false neutral mid-race, but third place is good for me today." As in Barcelona, Tony Arbolino ended his race in tenth position. The Italian was jostled in the first corner and suffered in the race due to a lack of feeling with his front end.

Mistakes in practice, a poor grid position and two ‘long lap’ penalties in the race complicated Deniz Öncü's German weekend. The Turkish rider finally managed to take the chequered flag in seventh position. “It wasn't a good weekend," admitted Deniz. “I had the pace in the race to do much better and I joined the leading group quite quickly. Unfortunately, the mistakes in practice proved costly.” Adrian Fernandez scored his best result of the season at the Sachsenring with an eighth place, just behind his team-mate. A result that confirms the progress of the young Spanish rider. “I feel better and better," said the Elf rider. “The start was complicated because there were some crashes in front of me and that put me off a bit. But then I got into my rhythm and gained positions as the laps went by. This result is encouraging. »
