TotalEnergies and ELMS
The European Le Mans Series features the elite of European Endurance racing and all the LMP2, LMP3 and LMGT3 prototypes that hope one day to take part in the FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship) and the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. As part of its partnership with the ACO, TotalEnergies is official fuel supplier and the company also provides support to the CLX Motorsport et VDS Panis Racing, through its brand ELF.
Major partnership with Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO)
Through this strategic partnership with the ACO, TotalEnergies is reaffirming its long-standing commitment to endurance racing. The track, a veritable open-air laboratory, offers a unique terrain for testing and developing cutting-edge energy solutions. The ER100 - our 100% renewable fuel - embodies our vision of a sustainable future, guaranteeing performance and consumption equivalent to that of fossil fuels.
The ACO has redefined the WEC rules for the Hypercar category. The aim is now to achieve the best performance using the least amount of fuel possible. This is a major change that responds to the concerns of manufacturers and motorists alike: reducing fuel consumption, reducing their ecological footprint and adopting more responsible practices.
Excellium Racing 100 emerged from this drive to combine performance and efficiency. This fuel from 100% certified* sustainable fuel sources has made its debut in March 2022. Designed and distributed by TotalEnergies, Excellium Racing 100 is made from bioethanol, itself produced from waste from French vineyards.
Due to its 100% biomass origin, Excellium Racing 100 will reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the product's production cycle at least 65%**.
Excellium Racing 100 is a true innovation made possible by our engineers’ expertise, and ties into the common values that the company shares with the FIA, namely safety, hybridisation, reduced consumption, low-carbon mobility, etc. As partner and official fuel supplier to the ACO (Automobile Club de l’Ouest), TotalEnergies is again proving its pioneering spirit and quest for performance.
This fuel 100% certified sustainable, approved by all our stakeholders thanks to the testing phases and discussions with constructors and legislators (FIA, ACO), is now provided to all competitors in the FIA WEC, including for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, European Le Mans Series and in the Asian Le Mans Series.
ELF and the pyramid of young talent in endurance racing
Already extensively involved in Endurance racing – a category widely acknowledged as an excellent test lab for the fuels of the future – TotalEnergies added a new string to its bow in 2020 when the company agreed a partnership between the Elf brand and the CLX Motorsport team (formerly Cool Racing) as part of the European Le Mans Series. The ELF-backed team will be eager to do well and retain its LMP2 category title with two Oreca07 prototypes, the No. 47 (Esperito-Santo / Enzo Fittipaldi / Derani) and the No. 37 (Malykhin / Blomqvist / Vautier), and in the LMP3 class with the No. 17 Ligier JS P325 (Closmenil/TBA/TBA). The Swiss outfit will also contest the Michelin Le Mans Cup, entering two Ligier JS P325 LMP3 prototypes, the No. 87 car (Rodella/Provost) and No. 97 car (Oltramare/Droux).
Once again this year, the Elf brand will also feature on VDS Panis Racing cars. The team has solid experience in the European Le Mans Series, where it has long since established a fine reputation. You only need to look at its result at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2020 & 2021, the pinnacle of Endurance racing, where it claimed a superb third place in the LMP2 class.
The goal of VDS Panis Racing is to keep improving and thus ultimately, try to win the series. The team created by former F1 driver Olivier Panis, which merged with Belgian team Marc VDS, can call upon the talent and experience of official Alpine Endurance Team driver Charles Milesi, leader of a crew including the promising young French driver Esteban Masson and Oliver Gray.
The 2025 European Le Mans Series features six races, each lasting four hours. Silverstone (United Kingdom) has rejoined the ELMS this year. The season kicks off in Spain (Barcelona-Catalunya) and is set to conclude in Portugal (Portimão). The starting grid features some 44 cars (21 LMP2, 10 LMP3 and 13 GT3).
*Excellium Racing 100 is a certified 100% sustainable product according to the mass balance system applied by a voluntary certification organisation approved by the European Union
**In line with the methodology provided by the European RED II directive (2018/2001), Excellium Racing 100 can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 65% compared to its fossil equivalent.
