Schulz confirms title as Carlberg finishes as runner-up in Opel e-Rally Cup!

ADAC KNAUS TABBERT 3-Städte, Germany, October 18th - With Timo Schulz having already wrapped up the title at Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine, the main issue to be decided at the final round of the 2022 ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup season concerned who would finish as runner-up between Swedish driver Calle Carlberg and the German Max Reiter.

Contested in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, this final event did not make life easy for any of the competitors, with fog and heavy rain providing very challenging road conditions throughout the 120 kilometres of timed stages. However, Timo Schulz showed once again that he was the boss this season, securing another impressive, masterful win. Another top-class performance for the young German, who will be promoted to the Junior European Rally Championship in 2023, competing for the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team. He will be hoping to match the achievement of French driver Laurent Pellier, who won the JERC title for ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team in 2022.

“It’s a dream come true,” he exclaimed at the finish. “This weekend, as always, we took a fairly cautious approach to the rally, especially as Friday evening’s stages in the Czech Republic were very demanding. Despite Saturday’s leg being competed pretty much entirely in the rain, we tried to avoid taking any unnecessary risks. I didn't want to conclude such a good season with a mistake. But our times proved enough to win in the end.” Calle Carlberg, with his dad Torbjörn still sat next to him as co-driver, ended the rally 16.4s behind Schulz but it was enough to ensure he finished as the 2022 runner-up, thus rewarding his consistent strong performances. Meanwhile, his main rival for the weekend, Max Reiter had to settle for third place after a spin on stage seven.
