Misano, Italy, September 5th - Raul Fernandez made a superb come back to claim his second best ever MotoGP result at Misano, crossing the line in 13th place.
Raul Fernandez had not managed to get into the points since Germany, where he finished twelfth. Although only twenty-third on the grid for the San Marino Grand Prix, the Spanish rookie managed to pull back ten places to take the flag in thirteenth place. “We worked really well this weekend," he exclaimed at the finish. “I had a good race pace on the medium tyres and I felt really comfortable on the bike. I found the confidence in braking that I was lacking before and I was able to exploit my potential.” Raul finished the race behind Andrea Dovizioso, who was racing at his final Grand Prix at Misano. Remy Gardner, who also had a poor grid position, made an excellent start from 24th on the grid and within a few laps he was up in the top 15. Unfortunately, the Australian was penalized with a long lap for exceeding track limits and in the end had to settle for nineteenth place.
After a short period of doubt, Tony Arbolino was back on form at Misano. The Italian, who was one of the few riders to start on the soft rear tire, finished seventh, ten seconds behind the winner. The Italian, who enjoyed a long battle with Pedro Acosta, moves up to fifth place in the overall standings. “We took a small step forward this weekend and I'm pleased with that," he commented. “The goal now is to fix the little details that are causing me problems before the overseas rounds." For his second race with the Elf Marc VDS team, Senna Agius failed to finish. The young Australian was forced to retire on the sixth lap after tangling with Filip Salac and crashing out.
Although not rewarded with the podium he was hoping for, Deniz Öncü was nonetheless heroic at the Misano circuit. The Tech 3 KTM rider, who was suffering from a shoulder injury sustained in training after the Austrian Grand Prix, took pole position at the twelfth race of the season. Unfortunately, Öncü made a small mistake on the fifth lap, which caused him to lose contact with the leading group. But he managed to catch them again and fought until the last corner with Dennis Foggia, Izan Guevara and Jaume Masia. Fourth at the chequered flag, the Turkish rider moves up to fifth overall. Tenth on the grid, Adrian Fernandez made a poor start, completing his first lap in twentieth place. He finally finished sixteenth, twenty seconds behind the winner.
The San Marino Grand Prix hosted the final two rounds of the 2022 MotoE World Cup. Alex Escrig concluded his first season with the Tech3 E-Racing team with a fifth and eighth place finish, giving him ninth place overall. The Spaniard finished on the heels of his compatriot and teammate, Hector Garzo. Garzo, who was competing in his second World Cup for Hervé Poncharal’s team also scored points both times at Misano. Tenth on Saturday, he finished fourteenth on Sunday. “This final race was encouraging," commented the Tech3 E-Racing team boss. “Alex made a lot of progress towards the end of the season and his attitude was always positive. Hector didn't get the results he was hoping for this year, but he never gave up. In the end, we finish the year with both our riders in the top ten."
