Created in 1995 by the Fédération internationale de motocyclisme (FIM) as the Thunderbike Trophy, the World Supersport Championship is an intermediate Superbike category. For over 20 years, TotalEnergies and its ELF brand have been part of this championship, alongside the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki.
Supersport: a truly outstanding championship
As with Superbikes, the Supersport bikes are very similar to the standard road-use models sold to the general public. They can benefit from a range of improvements, but cannot be completely redesigned. If a manufacturer wants to compete with one of its bikes, it will need to have produced more than 1000 units beforehand.
The main difference with Superbikes concerns the power of the machines: 600cc for Supersport, compared with 1000cc for the higher category. The calendar, on the other hand, is exactly the same for both competition.
The Supersport world title is therefore open to the market’s mid-capacity racing bikes. It offers outstanding promotional opportunities for manufacturers, making this one of the most keenly contested motorcycle racing disciplines.

TotalEnergies and its ELF brand, a major player in the WSSP

With its 21st season coming up, the World Supersport Championship is attracting large numbers of upcoming young talents from the world of motorbike racing looking to test themselves against more experienced riders. As with Superbikes, we will be working alongside Team Puccetti Racing and its riders, Lucas Mahias, 2017 World Champion, and Hikari Okubo, to help them push the Kawasaki ZX-6R to its limits.
Combining our expertise with the Japanese manufacturer’s know-how, we have developed innovative solutions that are adapted for this type of race and that are also designed for all motorcyclists, especially Kawasaki customers, as shown by the ELF Vent Vert lubricant range, available exclusively through Kawasaki’s distributor and dealer networks.
