Kiss moves closer to another title!

Zolder, Belgium, September 11th 2023 - Round six of the 2023 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship was held this weekend in Belgium at the Zolder race track.

Unseasonably warm weather ensured the meeting was contested in hot conditions on a track that is known to be particularly hard on brakes. A tough challenge when you push these incredibly powerful trucks to the limit. However, the extremely testing conditions were not enough to knock Norbert Kiss off his stride, the Hungarian reigning champion making a perfect start to the weekend by claiming both pole positions. In the end, it was a mechanical issue that hampered his progress, a broken turbo in the opening race allowing Jochen Hahn to grab victory. But Kiss won the other three races, partly assisted by penalties awarded to Albacete, who was initially declared as winner of race 2.

With two weekends still to go, the Hungarian now holds an unassailable lead, which means he can relax for the rest of the season. It is worth noting that Lion Truck Racing were also competing this weekend in Belgium and that Jonathan André added lots more experience in making it to the end of both rounds amidst the very high quality 2023 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship field. The weekend proved to be perfect preparation for the next meeting, due to be held on home territory at Le Mans, on 23-24 September.

Championship update

The mechanical issue suffered by Norbert Kiss meant he lost out on a few points but he is nonetheless some seventy points clear of Jochen Hahn, his closest rival in the 2023 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship standings. Hahn enjoyed the most profitable weekend in terms of the standings, increasing his advantage over Sascha Lenz and Antonio Albacete in the fight to finish as runner-up in the championship.
