In the Supercar category, significantly modified road-going production cars, similar to the WRC, compete in Rallycross events on mixed off-road and on-road tracks. Drivers are gradually eliminated during the weekend and only the top six quickest and most fearless drivers can compete in the final.
QUALIFYING SESSIONS
All the competitors must take part in four qualifying sessions. A qualifying practice involves several race sessions so that all the drivers can take part. Each race sees five participants face off, with points awarded based on the times achieved, compared with all the competitors: 16 points for first place, 15 for second and so on down to 1 point. At the end of the four sessions, the 12 top-placed drivers qualify for the semi-finals.
RACES
The 12 drivers are split into two semi-finals, with the top three from each one going through to the final. Points are awarded to all 12 drivers for the championship’s general standings. The final and semi-final are based on six laps, including one Joker Lap.
JOKER LAP
The Joker Lap generally includes a curve and slows the drivers down by 2 to 3 seconds. It must be taken by all the drivers once during each race, at the best time for each of them. Failing to take this Joker Lap results in a 30 second penalty. Each driver has a spotter to help them choose the best time to do their Joker Lap.
SPOTTER
For Rallycross drivers, the spotter is a bit like a co-pilot for Rally drivers, except that they are not in the car, but in the spotter tower on the side of the track. Positioned close to various control screens, the spotters can assess the various options available and guide drivers with their strategic choices.

CATEGORIES
In the Supercar category, significantly modified production cars, similar to the WRC, compete in Rallycross events on mixed off-road and on-road tracks, with four-wheel drive, powered by a turbocharged 2 litre engine delivering 600hp and 850Nm of torque.
Several events also include a one-make division known as RX Lites. This support category is raced with identical cars: naturally-aspirated 2.4L Ford Duratec engine delivering 310hp, tubular chassis and four-wheel drive.
The Super 1600 (front-wheel drive, naturally-aspirated 1.6L engine with 220hp) and Touring car (rear-wheel drive, naturally-aspirated 280hp engine) categories compete in a European championship.
